Pastor Lesley Newman-Sewell

Lesley Newman-Sewell currently serves as Pastor of Corkran Memorial United Methodist Church in Temple Hills, Maryland. In this appointment, Lesley has seen the hand of God and the providence of God’s grace, mercy and abundant provision. Lesley Newman is a native Washingtonian. She is a preacher’s kid; both her mother and father are pastors. She attended Prince George’s County Public Schools and graduated Valedictorian from Potomac High. Lesley went on to graduate from McDaniel College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Minor Concentration in Sociology.  Lesley is currently attending Wesley Theological Seminary pursuing her Master of Divinity degree, anticipating graduating in the class of 2018. She is also an Urban Ministry Fellow at Wesley. Lesley also works full-time as a Training Specialist for the Department of Human Services in the District of Columbia.

Lesley is the facilitator of W.A.R. (Women Anointed for Righteousness) at Wards Memorial UMC in Owings, MD. This group of women comes together to address the needs, desires and issues attached to being women. God has used the ministry of W.A.R. to help shape who she has become today. Lesley also served as organizer of the Survivor’s Passion Cancer Care Collaborative which was started in 2015. This ministry allowed Lesley to begin the work of building a network of churches and community partners in order to better serve those who are currently dealing with cancer, those who have survived and their caretakers. Lesley’s greatest ministry to date is being able to be mother to her daughter, Nadia. Lesley counts it as a blessing to be selected as the primary usher to Nadia through her life.

Lesley is passionate about the lives, minds and souls of all people but, she has a sweet spot at the core of her being for women and young people. She has been given a charge to facilitate the journey that leads people into finding their true purpose and living audacious, vibrant lives.
